Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission, candidates must:

  1. have a minimum of 58 semester hours of academic credit (exclusive of physical education, military science, dogmatic religion and vocational courses) from an accredited institution of higher learning; and
  2. complete the following minimum prerequisite requirements:

Sufficient electives to achieve 58 total semester hours of acceptable transfer credit.


* Students enrolled in a quarter academic calendar must complete required sequence of courses which are equivalent to University of Mississippi courses.


** Recommended biological science courses are general zoology, general biology, microbiology, human anatomy, histology, genetics, and physiology. Courses in botany are not acceptable.


All applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale. Applicants interviewed and accepted usually have a higher grade point. A minimum grade of C is required on each course accepted for transfer. If a course is repeated, both grades are used in calculating the grade point average. An interview with the Cytotechnology Admissions Committee is required. Preference is given to applicants who are legal residents of Mississippi.

Admitted students will be required at the time of registration to provide written confirmation of Hepatitis B vaccination or that they have begun the Hepatitis B vaccination series. Students are responsible for vaccination expenses.
