The University of Mississippi Medical Center adheres to the principle of equal educational and employment opportunity without regard to race, sex, color, religion, marital status, age, national origin, disability, or veteran status. This policy extends to all programs and activities supported by the Medical Center. Under the provisions of Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972, the University of Mississippi at the Medical Center does not discriminate on the basis of sex in its educational programs or activities with respect to admissions or employment.
Objectives accepted by the University of Mississippi School of Health Related Professions when it was established in 1971 were:
• to provide a source of trained, competent allied health personnel to meet the needs of the State of Mississippi;
• to provide consultant services to allied health educational programs;
• to aid in the development of appropriate cooperative education programs for allied health personnel; and
• to provide continuing education programs for allied health personnel.
These broadly stated aims are expected to remain valid indefinitely since they are in keeping with the expressed purpose of the University of Mississippi and its Medical Center to “teach in a superior manner the art and science of health care to students of exceptional promise and talent; to provide high quality treatment for all patients using the disciplines and specialties of modern health care; to lead the way to discoveries which will raise the health level of Mississippians and, indeed, all mankind; to foster dedication to life-long learning; to respond to community needs through continuing education and outreach programs that extend beyond the campus; and to recruit and retain the caliber of faculty necessary to meet these goals.”
The school has committed itself to more precisely defined goals and objectives by which progress and effectiveness may be evaluated. Although goals and objectives are structured in greater detail, this further statement is not to be considered fixed and inflexible but will be subject to review and revision as required to adapt to changing systems of health care and health professional education.

Education - The primary goal of the School of Health Related Professions is to provide superior quality instructional programs which are responsive to societal and student needs and which prepare students to obtain the appropriate university degree or certificate and professional licensure, registration, or
certification.
All programs are designed to help students reach their highest potential by enabling them to acquire broad theoretical knowledge and clinical competency in their specialty areas, attitudes conducive to utilization of their knowledge and clinical skills in the delivery of health care, and habits of continuous inquiry and education to maintain and improve their knowledge and clinical skills.
All programs are structured to qualify students for gainful employment and for admission to additional education. All programs will be periodically evaluated internally and the findings applied to modification and improvement of ongoing programs and plans for additional future programs.
Faculty strive to identify student characteristics that are predictive of success and to admit those students believed most likely to succeed. The school will maintain an intellectual and physical environment which is favorable to the educational function of the University on the health science campus and through affiliations with the health care facilities which offer clinical education opportunities. The school will recruit and retain a faculty and staff which recognizes as its first obligation the purposeful intellectual exchange between faculty and students.
Research - The school will support and encourage faculty research which may reasonably result in public benefit and recognize student research effort as an integral part of the student’s program of study. Faculty research which is considered valid and productive by professional peers is held to result in public benefit.
Service - The school will make its resources, including the services of its faculty and staff, available for the solution of health care problems in the State of Mississippi, cooperate with other agencies and institutions in joint endeavors of potential mutual benefit, provide consultation to health care facilities and other appropriate institutions and agencies for allied health personnel continuing education, and offer professional assistance to the University Hospital or other health care facilities in times of emergency or crisis.
