The Health Sciences Program allows students completing the health sciences degree to earn a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences. One track enables degree completion for health care practitioners who are licensed, registered, or otherwise credentialed by the state of Mississippi. A second track is designed for individuals who work in a health care environment and who need a bachelor’s degree and more extensive knowledge of health care issues for career advancement purposes. These students must hold an associate’s degree (including 60 semester hours of academic credit) or a minimum of 60 semester hours of academic credit from an accredited institution of higher learning. *Students enrolled in an institution which uses the quarter academic calendar must complete the required sequence of courses which are equivalent to University of Mississippi courses. **Humanities include history, literature, foreign language, journalism, sociology, political science, philosophy and religion. All applicants must have a grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale prior to admission. A minimum grade of C is required on each course accepted for transfer. The grades from all academic courses taken are used in calculating the grade point average, including courses which are repeated. Students can be admitted in the fall, spring, or summer sessions. All applicants pay a non-refundable application fee of $25. Click here for application. Students who satisfactorily complete the requirements will be awarded the bachelor of science degree in health sciences from the University of Mississippi.
Including academic transfer credits, students must earn at least 120 academic semester credit hours in order to graduate.
Degree Completion for Health Care Practitioners (Track I) Students who are licensed, certified, or otherwise credentialed may be awarded additional credit of up to 24 hours depending on the discipline involved. HS451, a four-semester hour role transition course, must be completed in order to be awarded this credit. The disciplines eligible for role transition credit are the health care professions that UMC offers or has offered in the past. Also, health care disciplines which require an associate’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning are acceptable if approved by the dean.
