Student Quotes

"The Physical Therapy department faculty members are intelligent, supportive,   and down to earth.  While the Physical Therapy program is challenging, having a faculty that is helpful lightens the workload."

Latonya Campbell, SPT

"Classes in the Physical Therapy Program are not like classes in undergraduate school.  You never wonder why you are learning something because everything you learn is relevant to what you will be doing in the clinic.  Understanding the long range benefit makes it interesting and easier to learn."

Paul Kosko, SPT

“…it is a big difference between our program and (another program).  They basically only learn theories.  Student didn’t know how to apply it when assessing and treating patients.  I helped her study for the test, she didn’t know half the questions so we went through all my notes and stuff and she made copies.  That really made me appreciate our teachers.”

OT 3 student on Fieldwork II clinical rotation

“For all the times in class we said “why are they making us do this?”….Looking back at all the classes and activities we have completed during school, I can’t think of one thing that was not helpful to me on fieldwork!”

OT 3 student

“We have had a lot of fun in all of our classes.  We have learned some interesting material and have done a lot of hands on activities:  OT 2 student

“I have learned more than I ever thought I could learn in one class” OT1 student

“Everything seemed so hard at the time, but now some of these terms are becoming second nature” OT 1 student

What is your perception of your academic program?

“First, let me note I was very prepared.  Everything I was introduced to at the fieldwork site, I had been introduced to at school.  All of the classes I took before my fieldwork helped prepare me.  It is beneficial that we get a chance to observe once a week and we get a chance to practice documentation.  The program taught me how to observe, write treatment plans, write an activity analysis, lead a group, chose professional/therapeutic activities and evaluate pts.  I felt prepared.”  OT 2 student

“The emphasis in our classrooms on being creative, flexible and thinking on ones feet helped me to attempt several ideas…..”

OT3 student

“I feel that our program is very well rounded!  We are given a variety of information concerning many things related to our field.  I feel the program does a great job in preparing us for this fieldwork.   There is no possible way to teach a student all there is to know concerning everything they may see or experience during fieldwork.  However, it is possible and has been achieved by our program to give us a large foundation on which to stand as we face the new experiences.”
